Frequently Asked Questions
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to help individuals make positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. During a hypnotherapy session, a trained therapist guides the individual into a state of deep relaxation and heightened suggestibility, known as a trance state.
In this state, the individual is more receptive to the therapist’s suggestions, which can help them overcome negative thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors that may be causing problems in their life. Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of issues, including anxiety, phobias, depression, addiction, weight loss, and smoking cessation.
Hypnotherapy is thought to involve changes in brain activity and the formation of new neural connections. The trance state created during hypnotherapy can help to bypass the conscious mind and access the subconscious, where deep-seated beliefs and emotions reside. This can allow the individual to gain new insights and perspectives on their problems, and to make lasting changes to their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions and issues, including:
Anxiety and stress-related disorders: Hypnotherapy can be effective in treating anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Depression: Hypnotherapy can help alleviate symptoms of depression and improve mood.
Addictions: Hypnotherapy can help individuals overcome addictions to substances such as drugs and alcohol, as well as addictive behaviors such as gambling.
Chronic pain: Hypnotherapy can be used to manage chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and migraines.
Weight loss: Hypnotherapy can be used to help individuals make healthier lifestyle choices, overcome emotional eating, and achieve sustainable weight loss.
Insomnia: Hypnotherapy can be used to improve sleep quality and help individuals overcome insomnia.
Phobias and fears: Hypnotherapy can help individuals overcome irrational fears and phobias such as fear of flying, fear of heights, and fear of spiders.
Performance anxiety: Hypnotherapy can help individuals overcome performance anxiety related to public speaking, sports, and other performance-related activities.

A hypnotherapy session typically begins with a conversation to discuss your goals and concerns. We will then go over the hypnosis process and what to expect during the session.
During the actual hypnosis session, you will usually be seated in a comfortable chair or reclining on a couch and be guided into a relaxed trance state.
At the end of the session, you will gradually come out of the trance state and discuss the experience. You may feel relaxed and refreshed after the session, and gained new insights or perspectives.
Hypnotherapy is generally considered to be a safe and low-risk form of therapy when conducted by a qualified and trained professional. The most common side effect of hypnotherapy is temporary drowsiness or grogginess following a session, which usually wears off within a few hours.
It’s important to work with a qualified and experienced hypnotherapist who has undergone proper training and certification. You should also discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your therapist before beginning hypnotherapy.
The number of hypnotherapy sessions required to see results can vary widely depending on the individual and their specific needs and goals. Some individuals may experience positive changes after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions to see significant improvement.
Factors that can affect the number of sessions required include the severity and complexity of the issue being addressed, the individual’s level of suggestibility, and their overall level of commitment and willingness to participate in the process.
In general, most hypnotherapists recommend a minimum of 4-6 sessions to achieve significant and lasting results. However, this can vary depending on the individual and their specific needs.

Shannon has been my daughter’s singing teacher for years and now she is doing hypnotherapy sessions with her for confidence building. Everyone in the family has noticed a huge difference in the way our daughter interacts with the world. It feels like I have my confident kid back! And she also is more creative then ever!
- Pam

I work for a global event management company. I saw Shannon for some sleep issues. After 4 sessions, I was sleeping through the night. She also taught me how to do self-hypnosis effectively which I do every night on a regular basis. I encourage anyone to try this type of therapy. Hypnosis worked for me!
- Carl
While I have used some similar self-hypnosis techniques for relaxation, working with Shannon was the first time I have used clinical hypnotherapy as a treatment method for some anxiety and fear issues. Having online sessions was really helpful – I was able to be warm and comfortable in my own space during the sessions. In a short amount of time, I noticed a difference in my stress levels around certain situations. I look forward to taking more sessions so that I can continue to retrain my brain around these issues.
