From Spirit to Science and Back Again: Calgary Hypnotherapist Shannon Shade’s Stories Featured With Suzanne Giesemann and Marci Shimoff

Shannon Shade, Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist and behavioural specialist offering addiction recovery in Calgary, and online worldwide.

We are more than our bodies, brains, and beliefs, and yet we have them. All of it needs to be tended to.

A Bridge Between Spirit and Science

I am Shannon Shade, a Calgary-based Clinical Hypnotherapist whose work bridges the gap between spirit and science, intuition and neuroplasticity. I am honored to have my stories featured in two international bestselling anthologies that explore transformation, healing, and the continuation of consciousness.

One, Mediumship: Sacred Communications with Loved Ones Across the Veil, was written by Suzanne Giesemann, the renowned spiritual teacher and evidential medium known for Wolf’s Message and The Awakened Way. The other, Awakened Hearts, features Marci Shimoff, celebrated author of Happy for No Reason, Love for No Reason, and co-author of Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul, as well as a featured teacher in The Secret.

Both women have inspired millions through their teachings, and their work reminds me that deep healing happens when the mind and spirit learn to speak the same language.

How Hypnotherapy Bridges the Seen and Unseen

While the continuation of consciousness points to something beyond us, hypnotherapy focuses on its experience within us through the conscious and subconscious mind. In hypnotherapy, we work directly with the subconscious mind, the part responsible for habits, emotional responses, and beliefs. When the brain enters a relaxed state known as theta, it becomes more receptive to change.

This is where transformation begins. We calm the nervous system, allowing the brain to create new neural pathways, a process called neuroplasticity. Old beliefs that no longer serve you begin to fade, and new, more supportive patterns take root.

Some people call it science. Others call it energy. I see it as both, the science of rewiring the brain and the art of reconnecting to something deeper within.

Shared Purpose Helping People Heal

What connects me most with thought leaders like Suzanne Giesemann and Marci Shimoff is not the spotlight but a shared purpose, helping people heal.

Each of us believes that transformation begins with awareness, compassion, and an open heart. My goal is to meet people exactly where they are, whether they approach healing through science, spirituality, or somewhere beautifully in between.

Spirit in Human Form

Through my lifetime, I have come to believe that we are more than our bodies, brains, nervous systems, beliefs, thoughts, and emotions — yet we have them, and all of that needs to be tended to. Our human side is sacred too.

In hypnotherapy, I help clients honor that balance. We work with the mind to quiet the body, retrain the brain, and release old conditioning that keeps you stuck. This is where the science of neuroplasticity comes to life — the brain’s ability to create new neural pathways and reorganize itself through new experiences and awareness. With focused attention and therapeutic suggestion, we begin to retrain the brain and the nervous system to respond in healthier, more supportive ways.

Through this process, the subconscious mind releases the old patterns it once created for protection and begins forming new, more supportive ways of responding. The brain and nervous system adapt to these changes, finding steadier rhythms and calmer reactions. It is gentle work but deeply scientific too, showing how awareness and intention can reshape the pathways that guide how we think and feel.

When we integrate both the spiritual and the human, something extraordinary happens. We begin to feel safe in our own skin again. Healing does not ask you to choose between the rational and the mystical. It invites you to embrace both. The subconscious mind never ceases to heal itself and never misses an opportunity to do so. Even the so-called bad patterns or limiting beliefs exist because, at some point, the subconscious believed they were needed for protection.

What truly matters is the healing that takes place, not whether every image, symbol, or memory that arises is literal or metaphorical. Sometimes the mind speaks through story, through imagination, or through what feels like another time or place. However it shows up, it is the part of you that knows how to heal revealing itself in the language you most need to understand.

And that, to me, is what From Spirit to Science and Back Again really means. Healing is not a straight line. It moves through stages, through awareness and release, through science and spirit, through the messy middle that makes us human. It asks for balance and compassion as we navigate this beautiful, complicated thing called life.
