Hi, I’m Shannon Shade — a Clinical Hypnotherapist and two-time international bestselling author based out of Calgary, Alberta. I work with people both in person and around the world online, helping shift the way emotions, patterns, and old mental loops live in the body and mind. I use subconscious rewiring, somatic tools, and a deep understanding of the nervous system to help people actually feel differently, and not just think differently.
Let’s be honest.
You’ve tried the breathing.
You’ve done the stretching.
You’ve read the books and sat through the sessions where you “talk it out.”
But somehow your shoulders are still in your ears, your jaw’s a vice grip, and your brain never really shuts up.
And that massage you just had? Amazing… for about 12 minutes.
So, what’s going on?
Your nervous system hasn’t gotten the memo.
It’s still wired like you’re running from a bear.
Wait — What Is the Nervous System, Anyway?
Your nervous system is your body’s communication and command center. It’s how your brain talks to your body and how your body talks back. It’s working nonstop behind the scenes, shaping how you respond to stress, danger, rest, and connection, even when you’re not consciously aware of it.
It runs through every part of you, not just your brain.
It’s made up of two major parts.
The Central Nervous System includes your brain and spinal cord. This is the boss. It processes, stores, and coordinates everything.
The Peripheral Nervous System includes all the nerves that branch out from your brain and spine into the rest of your body. These are the messengers, constantly carrying signals to and from your organs, skin, muscles, and more.
Within the peripheral system is a powerful sub-system called the Autonomic Nervous System. This runs everything you don’t consciously control. Your heartbeat. Your breathing. Digestion. Stress responses. And more. This is where things can get off track, especially after trauma or long-term stress.
The autonomic system has two branches.
Sympathetic is the gas pedal. It activates during stress. Your heart speeds up. Your muscles tense. Your breathing gets shallow. You are ready to run or fight.
Parasympathetic is the brake. It slows things down. It helps you rest, digest, heal, and recover.
Think of your nervous system like a car. The gas gets you moving. The brake helps you slow down. You need both. But if you stay on the gas too long, the engine overheats. If you slam the brakes too hard or at the wrong time, the whole thing can stall out. That might start happening so often that you brace yourself even when the road looks clear. Healing your nervous system means learning to drive again with balance and control.
When your nervous system is dysregulated, it often means your body has been pressing the gas too long. You feel tense, braced, and always on edge, even when things are actually okay.
And here’s the part most people never talk about. The parasympathetic side can get thrown off too. When that brake kicks in at the wrong time or gets pushed too hard, you don’t just calm down. You shut down. That’s the freeze response. You might feel foggy, numb, flat, exhausted, or like you’re watching your own life from far away.
Healing your nervous system is not just about relaxing. It includes finding a steady balance so you don’t keep swinging between burnout and collapse.
This is why working with your nervous system, not just your thoughts, is the real key to lasting change. Until your body feels safe, your brain will keep bracing for impact no matter how many times you tell it that everything is fine.
That’s why it’s so important to work with your nervous system directly.
Until your body feels safe, your brain will keep bracing for impact, even if nothing’s wrong. And that’s where rewiring comes in.
What Does It Mean To Rewire Your Nervous System?
Rewiring your nervous system isn’t about becoming some blissed-out monk or never getting triggered again. It’s about teaching your body and brain that it doesn’t have to brace for impact twenty-four seven.
Your system isn’t broken. It’s just been stuck in survival mode for a little too long.
When you’re constantly multitasking, overthinking, people-pleasing, doom-scrolling, or pretending everything’s fine while your insides are throwing a full-blown protest, your nervous system starts treating normal as threatening. And it holds on to that tension like it’s a job.
This is the part where real change starts. Not just in your thoughts but also in your body.
So why isn’t talk therapy rewiring your nervous system?
Don’t get me wrong. Talk therapy has its place.
But if you’ve been saying all the right things for years and your body still reacts like it’s under siege, something deeper is going on.
That’s because your nervous system doesn’t speak in words.
It speaks in patterns, tension, breath, and survival responses.
It remembers what your mind is trying to forget.
So, when you just “talk it out,” you’re only addressing the top layer.
Meanwhile, your body is still gripping the wheel. White knuckled. Just in case.
I’ve lived this.
I didn’t have an easy start.
And like a lot of people, I carried that survival wiring into adult life. Nervous system always on edge, even when things seemed fine.
I shared my experience as an author in Awakened Hearts: Stories of Limitless Possibilities, an international bestseller led by Marci Shimoff (from The Secret and Happy for No Reason).

What I Do (and How It’s Different)
When I work with clients, we’re not just having a chat.
We’re gently shifting the baseline your nervous system thinks is normal.
That might look like:
• Releasing long-held tension that keeps you up at night
• Guiding your system into safety through subconscious work
• Rewiring beliefs that were never yours to carry
• Teaching your body how to respond differently without forcing it
You won’t have to relive every painful memory or fix yourself.
We’re just showing your system a different way to exist. One where you don’t have to constantly be on guard.
This Is Where Neuroplasticity Kicks In
Once your system finally feels safe, your brain becomes open to change.
And that’s where neuroplasticity comes in.
Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to create new neural pathways. It learns by repetition. And if it’s been repeating stress, fear, or people-pleasing for years, that’s the wiring it knows best.
But once we’ve calmed the storm, we can start laying down new tracks.
In our work together, that might look like:
• Installing a new belief like “I am safe now” and making it feel true
• Practicing emotional regulation your system didn’t learn as a kid
• Reinforcing self-worth and trust through subconscious suggestion
• Replacing bracing for impact with an embodied sense of calm
This isn’t just thinking positive. It’s rewiring the emotional core of how you experience life, from the inside out.
You’re Not Just Letting Go — You’re Rebuilding
Yes, part of healing is release.
But the real magic happens when we also rebuild.
You don’t want an empty space where burnout or anxiety used to be.
You want new wiring. Calm. Clarity. Capacity. Resilience.
That’s what we create together.
A new story, supported by a nervous system that believes it.

What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a science-backed method that works with the subconscious mind to support emotional regulation and nervous system healing. By guiding the brain into a relaxed, focused state, it helps interrupt stress patterns and create space for new, healthier responses. This is a process rooted in neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself.
Respected organizations like the Mayo Clinic, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the American Psychiatric Association recognize hypnotherapy as a valid therapeutic tool. Many medical professionals around the world are integrating it into care, and the list keeps growing.
Neuroscience shows us that the brain and body can change. Emotional healing is deeply connected to how our nervous system functions.
Bonus Tools (Also Known as Tricks Up My Sleeve)
Alongside hypnotherapy and nervous system rewiring, I’ve got a few other tools you can use anytime your system starts to act up. These are simple, science-backed, and easy to do in the middle of your day.
Here are two of my favorites.
Tongue to the Roof of Your Mouth
Place your tongue just behind your front teeth.
Close your eyes if you want. Take a slow inhale through your nose. Exhale with a soft sigh.
Drop your tongue. Do it again.
Why it works: That spot connects to the vagus nerve, which plays a major role in nervous system regulation. This subtle pressure, paired with breath, helps shift your body out of fight or flight and into rest and digest. No meditation app needed.
The Wall Press Reset
Stand in front of a wall. Place your hands flat on it, shoulder height.
Push like you mean it for ten seconds. Release. Shake your arms. Breathe.
Why it works: When your body is holding tension, it often doesn’t know how to release it. The wall gives your nervous system something solid to push against so it can complete the stress cycle and let go.
It’s like a physical exhale for your whole system.
I share these kinds of resets with clients all the time.
They work. Especially when combined with deeper subconscious rewiring.
